SO WHAT’S WITH
SAFETY ENGINEERING?
Safety engineering is an existing, niche engineering discipline, that focuses on ”engineered systems”, from a safety point of view. Safety engineering is linked to industrial engineering, systems engineering and safety analysis. Safety engineering is well matured in other industries such as petro-chemical, aviation and nuclear.
With the strengthening of the mining industries’ focus on the importance of hazards and controls, control focused risk management is becoming a practice that is more widely applied. It is within this context that the importance of safety engineering will add value.
Mines are complex socio technical systems – therefore mines should be “engineered systems”. Consequently, safety engineering has to be a key focus, for mines in the future.
PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
SECDI’s service offering is enabled and supported by the following professional profile.
SECDI’S FOUNDATIONAL PILLARS
SECDI is built on a aspirational vision, a strong mission and simple, but challenging values.
VISION
At SECDI we foresee a future where all workers in industrial companies have had the opportunity to work and earn a living without having to pay any penalty in terms of injury or death.
We see all relevant employees being competent in all or some aspects of safety engineering.
All our efforts and energy are focused until our vision is realised at one company, then 10, then a 100 companies locally and later internationally.
MISSION
SECDI exists to play a small but key role in assisting industrial companies to achieve a safe operational environment.
We provide leading edge development programmes in safety engineering and safety related strategic and tactical advisory services.
As our journey unfolds, we will adjust our mission to impact-fully realise our vision.
VALUES
SECDI is a business run by people guided by values.
We live and work by two simple but very challenging values: integrity and respect. That is why we treat all people alike, with dignity, knowing that we are not all the same, nor have the same beliefs, yet we all have equal value as human beings.
We acquire work by honest and professional means – we don’t bribe nor lie to get work.
Our word is our honour – when we say we can do it, then we will do it. We don’t want you to trust us; We want to be trust worthy, by what we do and how we do it.
